So we're leaving soon...

We're leaving soon and there's so much to do! I've gotten half my shots and Karla just got all of hers today...then we have to get more pages for our passports so that we can obtain all our visas before we go, not to mention start booking our hostels and (finally) figuring out some of what we we should see! Phew.

But slowly and surely this thing is coming together, and we purchased tickets last week so we're really going! The final itinerary is as follows: we're leaving Sept 4 for Budapest where we'll stay for about a week, then flying to Turkey. From Turkey we're taking a ferry to Greece, then taking a ferry from Greece to Egypt. From Egypt we're flying to Tanzania, where we'll work for about three weeks with the Life Project for Africa (http://lifeprojectafrica.org/). From Tanzania we fly out to India and travel by train through India into Nepal. We'll go back into India to fly into Thailand (where we'll get to spend Thanksgiving with one of my college roommates, Katie!), then fly out of Bangkok into Hong Kong. From Hong Kong we're flying into Beijing, then we'll head north to see the Great Wall, before taking the train back into Beijing and flying out of there fly home December 18, just in time for Christmas.

So the next time I'll be posting, we should be en route. Don't forget to start checking our blog in September! And if anyone wants to join us for any part of the trip, let us know!

Holy crap! Good luck guys! This is going to be awesome! Karla, some advice: don't let Fish try to tell you of a "late night bakery" and then run around with strange foreign men all night trying to find it. I mean, i encourage you to run around with strange foreign men, but don't get your hopes up for any magical middle eastern bakery.

I'm so excited for you! Zoe and I expect postcards aplenty, since you can kill two birds with one stone (or write two friends with one postcard, for those who dislike proverbs and random acts of violence against birds). Travel safely and we'll be anxiously awaiting updates!

Karla, holy crap. have a fucking baller trip.

Just one suggestion: when you get to Turkey, visit an ancient city called Ephesus. it's totally excavated and AWESOME. it was an old aquatic stopping point between Rome and Constantinope (now known as Istanbul). when i went i flew down and back in one day and i don't think it was expensive. but there are definitely other ways to get there. check it out and i can't wait to read about your adventures!
